Castroville Active Seniors Association
The Castroville Active Seniors association operates as a senior
center without walls. Instead of a building, we welcome you to
use the town of Castroville as a center where you will find clubs
and groups devoted to many of the activities you enjoy, from
gardening to quilting, from sports to historic preservation.
There are individuals and groups engaged in interesting projects
to improve the town and the lives of its residents. There are
volunteer opportunities that will welcome your energy and
expertise to improve the lives of children and students, the elderly,
people and animals in need, and the services offered by the
Castroville Public Library, the Landmark Inn, Castroville Regional
Park and more.
There are classes and workshops available through the library,
the Medina Valley Community Education Association, Southwest
Texas Junior College, the American Legion, community organizations
and clubs, local artists and art groups. We will let you know about
these through this website and would like to help you offer classes
or workshops to others.
We are also here to help you find resources for what you need,
such as health information, finding a job, finding a support group
and getting in touch with agencies that offer help for seniors.
Castroville Regional Park offers many opportunities for recreation
and activities that improve health and fitness, such as the pool,
walking and hiking trails and sports facilities. There is an active
line dancing group that practices weekly and performs at many
different functions. The town has an Historic Walking Trail that
takes you by all the historic buildings in town and there is also a
Green Space Walking Trail that links the various parks and green
spaces. Iron Haus Fitness offers workout equipment, massages, a healthy snackbar, and free classes for members.
Castroville also offers opportunities to just have fun and meet
people. Fiorella Friday, on the first Friday of the month, is a street
party with music, wine tasting, art and craft booths, and shops
open late. Friday Night Fever, on the second Friday of the month,
is a huge car show with every vehicle imaginable on display,
accompanied by music and food and craft booths. Fourth Friday
Features is an evening of fun and refreshments held at a different
featured business or organization each month. We invite you to
come and invent a new activity for third Fridays! The Medina
Valley United Methodist Church offers the Open Door Social on
the second and fourth Wednesdays with refreshments, games and
companionship from 12 to 3 PM. Other Castroville churches offer activities and resources for the community as well.
We welcome you to join us, whether you live in Castroville or
not. Membership is free. We also need your help in telling us what
you need, and how you would like to participate if you want to offer
a class or workshop or get involved in making it a senior center that
will suit your needs and desires.
